WTCR Race of Hungary All four Honda Racing WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup drivers head to Hungary this weekend eager to bounce back immediately from a bruising visit to the Slovakiaring.
The Slovakia round yielded a podium for Esteban Guerrieri, but hopes are high for more success at the Hungaroring – located just outside the country’s capital, Budapest – with ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport claiming wins at the circuit in each of the previous two years.
Though there will be no spectators at the Hungaroring, Attila Tassi will be out to impress at his home event.
The 21-year-old, who hails from Budapest, achieved his first top-10 finish in the WTCR on the annual visit to Hungary last year, but this time will be looking to add to a 2020 record that already boasts two podium finishes.
ALL-INKL.DE Münnich Motorsport team-mate Tiago Monteiro enters the weekend hoping to finally kickstart his 2020 campaign.
Factors outside of his control in qualifying have largely been the root of Tiago’s trouble and, though he recorded another top-10 finish in Slovakia, his starting positions have left him susceptible to contact in the middle of the pack.
The Portuguese racer has winning pedigree to call on in Hungary, having claimed a victory for the factory Honda WTCC team in 2017.
As part of their preparations for Hungary, both Münnich Motorsport teams conducted a post-event test in Slovakia on Monday, while also completing the build of a new car for Nestor Girolami following his weekend-ending crash on the final lap of race two.
‘Bebu’, who had been on course to finish fourth until he was tagged from behind on the run to the fast Turn 2 right-hander, completed a shakedown in his new car at the end of Monday’s running.
His retirement and a subsequent non-start in the final race mean the Argentinian starts this weekend seventh in the points, but he will be buoyed by the fact he is returning to the scene of his finest hour on the world stage – having scored a famous double-win at the circuit last year.
ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team-mate Esteban put in three measured drives at the Slovakiaring, including a best finish of third in race two, and starts the weekend fifth in the drivers’ standings as a result.
The 2019 WTCR runner-up has scored podiums with the Honda Civic Type R TCR on the previous two visits to the Hungaroring, and also led last year’s final race before later retiring.
