Esteban Guerrieri and ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport head back to Motorland Aragon this weekend with the goal of winning the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup.

Despite a shortened, 16-race 2020 schedule, a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, Esteban has still claimed three wins so far this season and will enter the finale as one of 11 drivers still in with a chance of claiming the title, with the most realistic opportunity to unseat the current points leader.

Esteban, who this year has become the driver with the outright highest number of WTCR wins, is 26 points in arrears in second with a maximum of 85 available this weekend.

The 2019 runner-up is one of only three drivers to have gone into every WTCR season finale with a chance of winning the title, while the Esteban/ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport/Honda Civic Type R TCR combination is the only such one to have done so every season.

As well as Esteban’s Drivers’ Championship bid, ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport will also start the finale in contention for the Teams’ crown for a second year in a row.

They are 55 points off the summit, closer than at the same stage last season, with 153 left to play for.

Aragon, the venue for the previous round, will host the season finale following a late change to the WTCR calendar. Though the recent race weekend was a bruising one for the Honda Civic Type R TCR, there is optimism that the second run will be a more positive affair.

That is due to an anticipated weight break, as well as a change of layout for the finale, as the installation of a chicane to break up the long back straight should benefit the car.

For the first time, two Civic Type R TCR drivers will enter the final weekend with a mathematical chance of claiming the WTCR crown, as Esteban’s ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team-mate Nestor Girolami is also part of the reckoning.

‘Bebu’ will, however, be juggling three responsibilities as he attempts to help maximise Esteban’s chances, boost the team’s points tally and recapture his early-season form to improve his own placing.

The Argentinian is currently ninth in the drivers’ standings, just 10 points shy of sixth, and still has a realistic shot at finishing in the top five overall.

Following impressive weekends in Hungary last month, ALL-INKL.DE Münnich Motorsport drivers Tiago Monteiro and Attila Tassi both played the team game during the first Aragon weekend, and are ready to fulfil that role once more.

Tiago kept his eye in by competing in the TCR Germany season finale between Aragon rounds, claiming a best finish of second, and is hoping to end his second full WTCR season on a high.

Attila has enjoyed a fruitful second campaign, including a breakthrough first podium in the opening race of the season, which he backed up with a third-place finish at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The 21-year-old is 12th in the standings, having already bettered his points tally from the 30-race 2019 season, and could yet break into the top 10 with a strong final round.

“Once again we are doing the hunting, but I’m really happy even to be in this position. After the opening round at Zolder I thought it was going to be an uphill challenge to fight for the title, so to be in with a chance now is testament to the hard work of everyone at ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport. We knew the previous weekend at Aragon was going to be tough, particularly due to the compensation weight, so now that we have a bit less to carry let’s see what we can do, as the layout should also in theory be better for the Honda Civic Type R TCR. I’m ready to fight for every opportunity, and will be doing my best to bring this title for Münnich Motorsport and Honda.”

“My job this weekend is to do whatever is possible to try to help Esteban in the Drivers’ Championship, and the team as well in their title fight. It is a great feeling knowing that we will be part of a four-car team all working for the same goal; Tiago, Attila and myself will be doing what we can, and whatever the result if we fulfil this role we can be proud of the part we played. Although this season has been shorter there’s still been a lot of work for our mechanics, so from a personal side it would also be great to end the season with a strong weekend to repay their hard work.”

“I stayed sharp on my weekend “off” by competing at Oschersleben, scoring some good results, so I’m ready to jump back into the car again on Saturday and pick up where I left off. There I was also helping to support a Honda driver’s title bid, so it was a good rehearsal for this weekend - though we have of course been supporting Esteban before now. I felt good in the car at Aragon last time, so hopefully the weight break and layout change should help us even more. It’s been a tricky year at times but I’m ready to sign off in style - hopefully that will include helping Esteban to the title, and scoring the best results possible for Münnich Motorsport and Honda.”

“This season has absolutely flown by. It’s been a very strange year for everyone, but on track I am happy with the progress I have made. We showed really good form at the start of the season, so it would be a nice end to score some similar results to the ones we achieved earlier in the year and try to move into the top 10 overall. While one eye will be on doing this, though, the number one priority will be to help Esteban win the Drivers’ Championship. It was a tough weekend here last time, so let’s see if we can use the lessons from that to improve.”
